Smusht is a local family owned business open year round in the heart of Port Washington. They make small batch hand-crafted ice cream and freshly baked cookies. They “smush” them together to make a Smusht.
Like many business ideas, Smusht was a pandemic pivot. They sold their first ice cream sandwich in the fall of 2020—but in actuality, the founder Steve had dreamed of creating an ice cream business for 15 years. A self-taught cookie and ice cream maker, he loved the idea of opening a store where customers could build their own ice cream sandwiches and walk out the door feeling a little bit happier than when they came in. After selling a medical-supply business in 2018, Steve had an opportunity to reevaluate his career path; all it took was a challenge from his wife Sara, and he decided to go for it. What started as an operation akin to a lemonade stand in his front yard has evolved into a fixture of the community that brings sweetness (and lots of smiles) to faces young and old.
While vanilla ice cream, chocolate chip cookies and rainbow sprinkles will always be on the menu, they’re constantly aiming to surprise and delight customers with a rotation of unexpected flavor combinations that may include something like Peanut Butter & Jelly Ring or Spicy Aztec Chocolate ice creams, and White Chocolate Coconut or Heath Bar Crunch cookies.
